  • incorporations

  • sole proprietorships

  • shareholder agreements

  • business name registrations not-for-profit legal assistance

Estate Planning Services

While a will is the most well-known estate-planning document, making sure your family is taken care of and ensuring your wishes are carried out if you die or become incapacitated also requires other important documents.

Corporate or Commercial Law to Fit Your Business

If you want to set up a business, I can help you get started.

We discuss whether incorporating your business venture could be advantageous for your needs. Incorporating your business can be helpful for many reasons, including for tax planning and liability issues. Sometimes, however, it is better to carry on a business as a sole proprietorship or through a partnership. We will consult with your accountant to help you arrive at the best solution.
Together with your accountant, I can advise you on the pros and cons of each option and recommend which approach would be most advantageous to you.

Whether you are just getting started or have been operating your company for a while, your business has many legal obligations. I can provide hands- on support to help you sort through them and take the stress out of fulfilling your legal responsibilities.
Running your business is your job; mine is to bring you peace of mind, so that you can focus on what's important: running and growing your business.

About our Firm

Bernhard (Bernie) Dueck grew up on a farm near a small town in rural Manitoba. In 1982, he earned a B.A. (Honours) in Economics from the University of Manitoba, following by his LL.B. in 1986.

He moved to Ottawa in 1986, and was called to the bar of the Law Society of Upper Canada in 1988, and that same year started his own law practice.

In 30 years as a lawyer, Bernie has helped people through major transitions, which are sometimes the most stressful times of one's life. Many of those clients have returned over the years as their lives progressed and they required additional legal services.
